OSTROJ has delivered a complete mobile formwork system, including equipment for waterproofing and reinforcement installation, for the construction of the new section of Prague’s Metro Line D. Initial experience from the Pankrác and Olbrachtova stations confirms that the formwork from Opava significantly increases work efficiency and enhances safety directly within the tunnel. Construction companies particularly value the technical parameters, structural versatility, and ease of reconfiguration for various tunnel profiles.

All construction companies involved in this key infrastructure project – HOCHTIEF CZ, Strabag, and Subterra – are using equipment supplied by OSTROJ. The deployment of mobile equipment even took place two months ahead of schedule. OSTROJ also supplied platforms for the excavation of escalator tunnels.

“We delivered equipment not only for casting secondary linings but also for the installation of waterproofing and reinforcement. All construction companies appreciated the technical and operational parameters of our equipment as well as the high level of safety. We also successfully completed complex reconfigurations for double-track tunnels, which we managed to carry out directly underground,” said Martin Čmiel, Director of the Mining and Industrial Technologies Division at OSTROJ.

The equipment has already been used to concrete several hundred meters of tunnel. Its modular design allows for easy adaptation to various tunnel geometries. Transfers of the equipment between construction sites usually take place within underground areas; disassembly and surface transport between sites were only occasionally required. Even this logistically demanding task – during which OSTROJ continuously provided its assembly team and a supervisor – was completed smoothly and without complications. This is confirmed by David Chyba, construction manager at HOCHTIEF CZ:
“Our experience with the sliding formwork system from Opava has been very positive. It is a well-designed concept that meets our needs in tunnel construction. A major advantage is also the adherence to agreed deadlines during reconfigurations for different profiles.”

“We are currently in the phase of maximum deployment of our machines. We expect the work to continue until the end of 2026. The experience gained from the construction of Metro Line D will be used in the development of new generations of equipment for the construction of metro, road, and railway tunnels, with a focus on further improving efficiency and safety,” added Čmiel.
