The joint stock company Ostroj a.s. is a leading manufacturer of mining machinery suitable for any deep mining conditions plus a range of other engineering products. With over 70 years of manufacturing experience, the company is able to provide turn-key solutions and a full range of coalface equipment for coalfaces, including longwall mining operations.

1878: Establishment of the Eduard Tatzel company, an engineering and assembly shop and foundry.
1948: Construction of a new plant in Těšínská Street is approved in January. The foundation stone-laying ceremony takes place on 28 August.
1949: OSTROJ trade mark registered in January.
1977: OSTROJ becomes a subsidiary of the Ostrava-Karviná Mining Corporation.
1989: OSTROJ becomes a state-owned company.
1992: The joint-stock company Ostroj Opava is founded on 1 May.
1993 – 1994: The company is sold as part of the voucher privatisation scheme introduced by the Czech government.
1999: The shareholder structure of the company becomes stabilised; a single shareholder acquires a majority share in the company.
2005: The company name is changed to OSTROJ a.s. as of 1 August. A new logo is launched.
2009: Construction of two new plants for the Mining Machinery and Tool Shop is completed.
2011: Thorough reconstruction of shop floors for the Engineering and Assembly Shop, Hydraulics Division and Forging and Hardening Shop completed.
2013: Modernization of the administration building.
2014: OSTROJ won award from the Governor of the Moravian-Silesian Region for Social Responsibility and the Exporter of the Year award.
2015: Construction of a new production hall Tool Division.
