Tradition of the joint-stock company OSTROJ a.s.
dates back to 1878. At that time an industrialist named Eduard Tatzel founded the Engineering Plant and Foundry of Opava. The company has been known as OSTROJ since May 1949, when the name became a registered a trademark.
The most familiar and until recently also the biggest part of our manufacturing program is a traditional range of mining equipment for all mining conditions in underground mines. First of all, it includes powered roof supports, armoured face conveyers, stage loaders, belt conveyers, belt lifts, plow systems, individual hydraulic props, legs, cylinders and other hydraulics for mining. We are able to completely custom-equip a coalface including using longwall method. We are known to the public and to the customers also as a manufacturer of loading hydraulic cranes, both for forestry and for the building industry. However, this does not by far comprehend our current range of products. In the Forging and Hardening Shop Division we produce die forgings in weight categories of 0.1 - 25 kg, cold and hot pressed pieces, and of course we also check the quality of forgings for cracks and perform additional heat treatment.Steel structures, welded parts of up to 10 tonnes , partially including machining, are manufactured in the Engineering Shop Division. The Hydraulics Division makes hydraulic elements, hydraulic rolls, presses and gearboxes. We develop and produce forging tools, shering dies, low-pressure and high-pressure moulds for aluminum, rubber and plastics and various jigs. Surface treatment by zinc coating, hard functional chrome plating or plastic coating is performed in the Galvanization Shop. Our products are increasingly used also on the demanding market of the automotive industry, for which we got a certification in early 2001 according to VDA 6.1 in the area of forgings.
